The Challenge
The startup — a Series A AI platform building a collaborative workspace for ML engineering teams — had recently closed a $28M round led by a top-tier firm. The funding announcement had generated attention, but six weeks later, the team faced a different and arguably harder problem: converting that attention into actual product adoption.
Their beta was ready. The product worked. But beta signups had plateaued at roughly 40 per week, driven mostly by the founding team's direct outreach and a handful of organic mentions. The company needed to open the beta to a wider audience and create sustained visibility over the critical first three weeks — the window when early adopters form their first impressions and decide whether to integrate a new tool into their workflow.
The core problem: A single launch spike — the approach that works for Product Hunt or funding announcements — doesn't work for beta releases. Beta adoption is a funnel: impressions drive signups, signups drive activation, activation drives retention. A 24-hour spike generates signups who never return to a product they forgot about by the next day. The startup needed visibility that sustained over weeks, keeping the product top-of-mind as users moved through the activation funnel at their own pace.
The Strategy
ChirpLift designed a Sustained Amplification campaign fundamentally different from the single-window Launch Surge approach. Instead of concentrating all influencer activity into one hour, the 20-influencer network was deployed in three phased cohorts over three weeks, with each cohort building on the momentum of the previous one.
Network Matching
We selected 20 influencers across four audience segments:
- ML engineering practitioners (7 creators) — working ML engineers and data scientists who could speak to real workflow pain points and evaluate the platform authentically.
- DevTools commentators (5 creators) — voices in the developer tools ecosystem who could frame the platform in the broader landscape of engineering productivity tools.
- AI thought leaders (4 creators) — high-reach accounts covering the AI industry who could provide broad visibility to audiences adjacent to the target user base.
- Founder and operator voices (4 creators) — startup founders and engineering leaders who could speak to the team-building and collaboration aspects of the platform.
The Three-Phase Architecture
The campaign was structured in three weekly phases, each with a distinct narrative focus:
- Week 1 — Launch and Awareness: 8 influencers posted in a coordinated wave to generate initial visibility. Content focused on the product reveal, key capabilities, and the beta opening. This phase generated the initial 2M impressions in 24 hours.
- Week 2 — Depth and Demonstration: 7 influencers posted hands-on reviews, workflow walkthroughs, and comparison content. This phase targeted users who had seen the initial wave but needed more technical depth to commit to a signup. Content was timed to maintain a steady presence in feeds rather than spiking.
- Week 3 — Social Proof and Conversion: 5 influencers posted follow-up content highlighting early user feedback, community growth, and specific use cases. This phase created urgency — the sense that a community was forming and the window to join early was closing.
The phased approach ensured that the product never disappeared from the conversation for more than 48 hours at a time, while avoiding the fatigue that comes from seeing the same accounts posting about the same product repeatedly.
The Execution
The campaign ran on a 14-day pre-launch timeline followed by the 3-week active phase.
Pre-Launch: Days 1–14
ChirpLift conducted product deep-dives with all 20 influencers, with the Week 2 cohort receiving extended hands-on access to prepare authentic review content. Each influencer received phase-specific briefs that aligned their content with the weekly narrative arc. The Week 1 cohort prepared launch-day content, the Week 2 cohort prepared demonstration content while actively using the platform, and the Week 3 cohort tracked early user feedback to inform their social-proof posts.
Week 1: Launch Wave
The 8 Week 1 influencers posted within a 2-hour window on beta launch day. ChirpLift monitored real-time engagement and coordinated cross-amplification: influencers were prompted to engage with each other's posts within the first 30 minutes, creating the visible network effect that drives algorithmic distribution. The initial wave generated 2M impressions in the first 24 hours and drove the first 1,100 beta signups.
Week 2: Depth Wave
The 7 Week 2 influencers posted across 5 days, with 1–2 posts per day rather than a single coordinated spike. This created a steady drumbeat of technical content that kept the platform visible in feeds throughout the week. Several posts included screen recordings and workflow demonstrations, which proved particularly effective at driving signups from users who needed to see the product in action before committing.
Week 3: Social Proof Wave
The 5 Week 3 influencers posted over 4 days, incorporating real user quotes, community screenshots, and growth metrics from the first two weeks. One influencer hosted an X Space discussing the platform with two early beta users, which generated a secondary wave of organic mentions. This phase drove the final 900 signups and, critically, produced the highest activation rate of the campaign — users who signed up in Week 3 were 1.8x more likely to become active users than those from Week 1.
The Results
The 3-week sustained campaign outperformed a single-spike approach on every metric that mattered for beta adoption. The phased cohort strategy maintained consistent visibility throughout the critical adoption window, and the narrative arc — from awareness to depth to social proof — moved users through the funnel at each stage.
The most significant result was the 12% activation rate — the percentage of beta signups who became regular active users within 30 days of signing up. This far exceeded the industry benchmark of 2–5% for beta products, and the startup attributed the difference directly to the sustained visibility approach. Users who encountered the product multiple times across different influencers over three weeks were more likely to form the habit of returning to the platform than those who signed up from a single spike and forgot about it by the next day.
The campaign also produced a lasting asset: a library of authentic demonstration content from trusted voices that the startup continues to use in their organic social strategy. Three of the Week 2 influencers became ongoing product advocates, posting about new features organically months after the campaign ended.
“ChirpLift's network gave us the credibility signal we needed. Our launch post hit 2M impressions in 24 hours — that would have taken us months organically. But what actually mattered was the sustained approach. Three weeks of consistent visibility got us 3,500 signups and a 12% activation rate. A single spike would have given us impressions and nothing else.”
